Coming off of the road for a stint or working on a new album? We are able to accommodate your basic storage needs. Your backline, set, risers, audio, automation, carts, hampers, lighting, and all other toys now have a discreet place to live.

About Us

Established in 2004 by local musicians Grant Cuthbertson and Jeff Knorr, Asheville Backline got its start at the former CollapsAble Recording Studio on Haywood Road. As the studio’s reach grew beyond West Asheville, the duo found themselves fulfilling an increasing number of local rental requests — from single amps to complete band packages. Inventory grew, and Asheville Backline was born.

About usAfter a decade in business, the two closed CollapseAble and began building a catalogue of beautifully maintained instruments for rent. With this renewed focus, Asheville Backline became a trustworthy and respected backline vendor for Western North Carolina.

2017 brought a reshaping of the company following the sudden passing of Jeff Knorr, a beloved pillar of the local music community. Grant carried the torch for several years until refocusing his efforts on playing music, pursuing real estate and a career shift.

About usIn September 2020, amid the pandemic and a shutdown of the music industry, Asheville Backline was officially sold to a team of friends with 50+ years of backline experience. We want to say thank you to the original founders and their families for creating a trusted brand held in high regard. We will strive to continue the excellent service you have provided this wonderful music scene for the last 16 years.

How can I get a quote?

Contact us with your gear needs or the artist rider. Please include the date(s) needed as well as location and times. Discounts are provided for multi-day rentals.

Do you deliver and pickup?

We can deliver and pickup from almost any location round the globe. Cartage services are also available. Send us your event details and we will respond with a quote.
Alternately, clients may choose to pickup and return from our warehouse. Our drive in ramp and truck dock makes any order a breeze.

How can I make my event run smoothly?

Beyond delivery and pickup we can provide technician services. Options for gear setup and strike as well as all day maintenance are available. We can work within your budget to fit any needs.

Do you rent audio equipment?

In order to provide the highest quality in backline services we do not rent audio equipment. However, we will happily connect you with our preferred audio providers to assist on your production needs.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Generally advance payment is required. We will provide an itemized equipment list with a payment link. Major credit cards are preferred, company checks are also accepted.
